Bangkok’s Next Landmark: Why the City Is Ready for a True Eatertainment Destination

Bangkok has earned its place as one of Asia’s great dining capitals. The 2026 Michelin Guide Thailand now lists two three-star restaurants (Sorn and the newly promoted Sühring), eight two-star kitchens, and 33 one-star venues — the majority concentrated in the capital. Top tables continue to see exceptional demand. At the same time, the city’s nightlife has premiumized, rooftops and cocktail bars rank among Asia’s best, and the contemporary art scene has taken a major leap with the late-2025 opening of Dib Bangkok, Thailand’s first international-standard contemporary art museum, alongside a growing gallery and biennale ecosystem.

Yet something is still missing.

Thailand welcomed 32.97 million foreign visitors in 2025, generating roughly 1.53–1.54 trillion baht from international spending and about 2.7 trillion baht in total tourism revenue. TAT has set ambitious 2026 targets around quality over volume (high-value, longer-stay visitors) while later forecasts sit closer to 32.6–33 million arrivals. The overall F&B market remains large — Kasikorn Research has projected restaurant and beverage turnover in the 646–682 billion baht range with modest 2.8–3.9% growth — but it is intensely competitive, with high opening and closure rates. Full-service and premium segments grow more slowly than street food or casual concepts. High-end experiential dining still benefits from affluent locals and quality-focused tourists, but most offerings remain siloed: a Michelin restaurant here, a rooftop bar there, a club or gallery somewhere else.

Silom sits at a natural intersection. By day it is a business district; by night it becomes one of Bangkok’s most energetic nightlife zones — iconic rooftops, the LGBTQ+ scene on Soi 2/4, bars, and a mixed crowd of professionals, tourists, and locals. Heritage buildings in the area offer character that newer malls and towers cannot match. The opportunity is not another standalone restaurant or another rooftop. It is a single, landmark destination that weaves rotating world-class dining, live entertainment, VIP exclusivity, and art into one cohesive, evolving experience.

That is the gap PLATFORM is designed to fill.

We are converting a 40-year-old heritage bank building in the heart of Silom — approximately 4,000 sqm of usable space — into Bangkok’s premier eatertainment hub. Phase 1 focuses on 2,650 sqm across multiple levels:

  • Ground floor: VIP room and wine cellar

  • First floor: main bar with performing stage

  • Mezzanine: exclusive VIP seating overlooking the bar

  • Second floor: two high-end restaurants

  • Third floor: five luxurious VIP rooms

  • Fourth floor: art gallery for exhibitions and cultural events

The model is deliberately integrated. Rotating Michelin-caliber chefs every 3–6 months keep the culinary offering fresh, generate social-media buzz, and drive pre-bookings — addressing the “same menu forever” fatigue that even excellent restaurants eventually face. Live performances on the stage, private VIP spaces, and a rotating art program create genuine synergy: a guest can start with a tasting menu, move to drinks and entertainment, host a private gathering, or linger in the gallery. This one-stop, multi-sensory approach is still uncommon in Thailand’s mid-to-high-end market. It encourages longer dwell time, higher spend per visit, and stronger repeat loyalty than single-concept venues.

The heritage architecture itself becomes part of the story — a restored bank vault and original features blended with contemporary, sustainable design (led by Milan-based designer Tillmann Lauterbach, emphasizing upcycling and reduced environmental impact). Location in Silom gives immediate access to the business crowd, nightlife energy, and tourist flows without being lost in a mall or purely residential soi.

Our three-founder team brings complementary depth: Hong Ming Lau (talent strategy, marketing, and Asia-Pacific networks), Omar Malik (finance and control from banking and consumer businesses), and Rex Lau (nearly 20 years of F&B operations across Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Thailand, plus an award-winning food processing background). Together we have more than 50 years of relevant experience.

We see the market clearly. Overall F&B growth is moderating and competition is fierce. Success will depend on execution — consistent quality despite chef rotations, construction on a heritage building, and delivering a truly distinctive experience rather than another “nice restaurant plus bar.” But the tailwinds for premium, experiential, culturally layered concepts remain real: high-spend tourism, Bangkok’s status as a global dining and nightlife destination, the art-scene boom, and a proven appetite for heritage conversions (Potong being a well-known example). A well-executed flagship in a landmark Silom building can become more than a venue; it can become a new icon that later supports a replicable operating model.

PLATFORM is currently in development as that flagship. If you work in F&B, hospitality, art, or are exploring opportunities in Bangkok’s premium space, I would welcome a conversation.

我们三位创始人团队互补:Hong Ming Lau(人才策略、营销及亚太网络)、Omar Malik(来自银行和消费品领域的财务与管控经验)、Rex Lau(近20年上海、香港、泰国餐饮运营经验,并拥有获奖食品加工背景)。
