I have been discussing with different candidates (job seekers) these months and trying to figure out what are the benefits that attract them to join or to stay with the company. Here are the 5 benefits that they concern most these days.
Remote Work and Flexible Schedules
Since the start of the pandemic, a lot of companies have been practicing work from home or flexible work schedules for their employees. Many of the employers have historically been skeptical about this kind of working mode would impact productivity and company workflow, it has already proven that many employees adapted this new remote working and flexible schedule. They can execute their jobs well and data suggested that their productivity has been strong and working from home produced the same level of even better result at work. It’s not only the job performance of remote employees that will drive the continued practices of remote work and hybrid schedules – remote work has also saved employers a lot of money. Also, with this new mode of work, employers could employ employees without geographical boundary and result in having bigger talent pool in developing their business.
Remote work and flexible schedules are one of the hottest topics that talents are talking and asking about while looking for a transition or new job. Companies with such policy could benefit from attracting more talents to join their companies.
Learning and Development Opportunity
Companies that offer continuous learning and development opportunity have higher retention rate and employee’s satisfaction. It could also improve the morale, workplace engagement as well as loyalty of the employees. Companies can use this as developing their talents across all levels. Recently, most of the companies only offer this benefit to senior or top management, to cultivate a strong learning environment and better succession planning, it’s crucial to start from the junior staff as they are backbones and future of the companies. The better skill-sets they acquired, the better the companies could perform in different areas. Execution is as important as strategic planning, a good idea cannot be executed if there is no such talent to support.
Providing an opportunity to further study or learning also build a better workplace. During these training and development sessions or programs, they will tackle new challenges together. They can also lean on one another for various learning opportunities by collaborating with colleagues who have specific areas of expertise. Learning from each other’s strengths not only leads to a more well-rounded workforce, but those bonds can also improve retention and engagement.
Coaching and Mentoring
More and more companies are providing coach and mentor to develop the soft and hard skills of their employees. It has proven that coaching could empower employees and encourage them to take responsibility. It could increase employee engagement and their performance and help in identifying and developing high potential employees, it is particularly important as the market is getting more competitive as it’s a talent driven market. It shows the employees not only the companies value them but also could benefit from coaching and mentoring, it strengthens the engagement and develop a better relationships. It’s a win-win.
Through coaching, new skills with a clearer leaning plan could be developed. It helps the employees to solve problems in new ways. When employees commit to learning new skills, they are recognizing that can increase their value to their employers as well. It’s beneficial to both employers and employees to build a stronger, productive and cooperative teams.

Mental and Health Wellness
It’s getting more and more important and the mental and health wellness of your employees is one of the key elements to determine whether your organization can continue to flourish or not. Supporting mental and health wellness can increase productivity and employees’ engagement, a lot of companies provide different supports like regular meditation workshop, professional consultation service, employee supporting/ resources group, gym allowances and various workshops (both in office and off-site). It creates a more harmonious and happier environment that strengthens the bonds and communication between teams, it helps to boost morale and commitment of the employees, that result in stronger engagement. It helps to reduce absenteeism and increase retention rate. It helps in promoting a positive company’s image which results in attracting more talents in joining the company.
Annual Leave and Day Off
Not many companies may have noticed but the number of annual leave and day off is always a very important issue to determine whether the talents will join your organization. Employees work hard for your companies but they also need to have enough rest to maintain their morale and productivity. Companies offer minimum annual leave / day off (by employment’s ordinance) to their employees see lower retention rate and higher absentee rate. The mentality of employees is very different from the old time and more and more professionals are looking for work-life balance. A company that provides a competitive annual leave or day off package can also build a more positive company and social image, with study showing that with more annual leave, employees tends to look for lower salary gain compared to those with less annual leave. More annual leave and day off could also be a cost saving measure and bring in more talents to you organization.
It's a team work to make a company successful, providing competitive benefits is a one step forward to recruit and retain top talents to your organisation.
